Today's Song of the Day is one of my absolute favorites and a constant earworm of mine since the 80s. Agar Tum Na Hote was a strange and sad movie starring Rekha and Rajesh Khanna and Raj Babbar.
Rekha and Rajesh Khanna play a married couple and then their lives take a tragic turn with the birth of their daughter and Rekha passes away. In a complicated turn of events that can only happen in Bollywood, there is a Rekha-doppelganger out there in the world that falls in love with and marries photographer Raj Babbar. When he is hurt in an accident, Rekha 2.0 goes out to find a job and comes to work for Rajesh Khanna as a nanny for the little girl, who is completely scarred by growing up without a mother. Not knowing she is married, Rajesh Khanna falls for her, especially seeing how she manages to charm and turn around his daughter's behavior. Raj Babbar is trapped by his injury and his failure to provide for his wife and begins to doubt her fidelity. There's a lot of guilt and suffering and misunderstanding tossed around before they finally come to a conclusion.
I do remember this movie, and I found it incredibly sad. Rekha's acting was particularly good in this film, I mean it HAD to be if she was portraying someone in love with Raj Babbar (I mean, seriously!). But the best thing by far was the soundtrack. Most well-known is the title song "Humein aur jeene ki chaahat na hoti, Agar tum na hote ... Agar tum na hote" (gorgeous song!), but I also remember the random songs like "Kal to Sunday ki chutti" (in which Rekha lent her voice!), "Sach Hai Yeh Koi" (Rajesh Khanna's drunken song) and "Hum to hai Chui Mui" (a delightful song in which Rekha is dressed up to play a puppet in a stage show).
My absolute favorite was the very sensual, sweet, melodic number "Dheere Dheere Zara Zara" sung by Asha Bhosle. This song really draws you in with the stirring guitar work by Ramesh Iyer -- the chord progression in particular really gets me. It's an unusual tune, something haunting and beautiful that is truly a work of art by R.D. Burman (my all-time favorite Music Director). Together with the tropical, palm-tree dotted setting, the bonfire on the beach, Asha-ji's crooning (as only she can do) and Rekha's stunning expressions, this song has stuck in my mind for MANY years and is probably the source of my burning desire to have a romantic bonfire on the beach.
I definitely wanted to share it for Rekhalicious October, especially today being the final day, because it is probably my all-time favorite Rekha song and I think she's incredible in it!
Let me know what you think!

Is Demi Lovato Dating Justin Bieber? What Happened To Demi’s Twitter Page?
Demi Lovato has been romantically linked with a number of people including Trace Cyrus and Joe Jonas, but now Demi is taking a chance with a younger man, 16 year old Justin Bieber.
Could this be a match made in heaven? A source told Life & Style, “She’s not shy about talking about their relationship. Demi said Justin was very mature for his age.”
The source continued, “She was shocked at what a good kisser he was.”
Despite rumors of a relationship with Justin Bieber, Lovato, 18, recently twitted that she was engaged and quickly retracted the rumor, saying it was just a ‘joke.’ Now her Twitter page – @ddlovato – has went blank and gives off the error message Sorry! That Page Doesn’t Exist.. Some people think that her Twitter page was hacked, while others believe it was her choice to quit the social networking website.
What are your thoughts on Demi Lovatos’s love connection with Justin Bieber and her missing Twitter page? Do you think she’s abandoned the internet to pursue a secret love with Justin Bieber?
Justin Bieber's "Never Say Never" Teaser Trailer on FOX
In order to draw a younger crowd to Game 3 of the World Series this Saturday, a sneak peak of Justin Bieber's video “Never Say Never” will air on Fox.
Just before the San Francisco Giants take on the Texas Rangers, a video that the “Baby” singer filmed while wearing both teams’ gear will make its debut.
Aside from the Biebs’ video, Kelly Clarkson will sing the national anthem while Ryan Seacrest and Randy Jackson will announce the winners of the World Series of Costumes photo contest.
In other news, it is being reported that Justin Bieber is one of the hottest Halloween costumes this year.
Justin Bieber hints at Chris Brown collaboration…
Last night, Twitter was buzzing after teen heart throb Justin Bieber hinted that he is set to release a new single which will feature R&B star Chris Brown…
“Kinda hyped right now” he writes “For a new single, teamed up with one of my friends and an artist I used to sing covers of on Youtube. BIG RECORD. SMASH!!” (Source). Shortly after tweeting that message he posted a clip of himself before hitting the big time singing Chris’s hit song ‘With You’. I think my 17-year-old sister is going to have a heart attack. She loves them both.

I am wondering... What were they doing there? For who's game?
Or was it just for fun that they go to a high school football game?

Justin Bieber romantically linked to Demi Lovato
Rumors are hot that pop singer Justin Bieber and Disney star Demi Lavato have hooked up. While it's unlikely that this rumor is true it would make sense that the two would be interested in each other since they have a lot in common with their careers.
Life and Style magazine is reporting that Justin Bieber recently and secretly hooked up with Lovato and that they shared a few kisses. For all the girls out there wondering what it would be like to kiss Bieber. Lovato is reported as saying that Bieber is an “excellent” kisser.
The source that is close to both Bieber and Lovato said that Demi thought Justin was “mature for his age” and they said she was “shocked” to learn that he was an excellent kisser.
While Justin hasn’t responded to the rumors, Demi’s Twitter account has been taken down. Wonder if the rumored hook up is related to the missing Twitter account?

“The clouds I can handle, but I can’t fight an Eclipse”
Eclipse has been on my must watch list for a long long time but I guess I am just destined not to see the Twilight series movies on the big screen. Today I managed to get the DVD from a local library and that sure did make my Saturday afternoon.
If you are wondering what a grown-up (supposedly) like me gets out of watching these teenage romances, or as someone mentioned at work, extended Hannah Montana series, I have nothing to say. My defense rests here – a post that I did a while back.
Coming to Eclipse, I thoroughly enjoyed the battle that brought together the indomitable spirit of the Cullens and the unyielding grit of the werewolves, against the new-born vampire army!
The menacingly dark weather of Forks, Washington seems to provide an ideal case of pathetic fallacy – the clouds that could rain any time, the skies that could darken without warning, the coastal forests - all provide the perfect set-up that is pregnant with possibilities – a sense of foreboding lurks just like the omnipresent overcast sky…
And finally what I absolutely adore about these Twilight movies - the incredibly cute dialogues. So, instead of going ga-ga over the lovable Cullens, I thought I’ll reproduce a few of the dialogues here for your reading pleasure ;).
Edward (proposing to Bella): I think you'll find the vampire human divorce rate a little lower. Just marry me.
Edward (referring to Jacob): Doesn't he own a shirt?
Edward (to Bella): Before you, Bella, my life was like a moonless night. Very dark, but there were stars – point of light and reason. And then you shot across my sky like a meteor. Suddenly everything was on fire; there was brilliancy, there was beauty...
Charlie (Bella’s dad): (to Bella) There's... things that you need to think about if-you if you're going to be... physically intimate...
Bella: Okay, Don't, don't have ‘the talk...’ please!...
Charlie: ... Alright, so, you guys are taking precautions?...
Bella: Okay, Dad, please just don't worry about... that... Edward is...Old School…I am still a virgin!...
Charlie (to himself): Virgin... I'm liking Edward a little more now...
Bella’s mom: There’s something…strange about the way you two are together… The way he watches you—it’s so…protective. Like he’s about to throw himself in front of a bullet to save you or something.
Edward: I’m from a different era. Things were a lot less complicated. And if I met you back then, I would have courted you. Would’ve taken chaperoned strolls, and iced tea on the porch. I may have stolen a kiss or two but only after asking your father’s permission, I would've got down on one knee and I would’ve presented you with a ring. This is my mother’s. Isabella Swan, I promise to love you every moment forever. Would you do me the extraordinary honor of marrying me?
Awwwww...now who can resist the gentlemanly immortals!

Premiere on Fox: Justin Bieber's New Video
Justin Bieber's new music video will premiere on FOXthis weekend.
The video is for a special acoustic version of his hit single "Never Say Never" off his upcoming album due out at the end of November. The premiere will happen during FOX's pregame show for Game 3 of the World Series of Baseball, which begins at 3:30 p.m. this Saturday, October 30.
The video was shot at Angels Stadium and features Bieber wearing athletic gear representing both teams in the World Series: the San Francisco Giants and the Texas Rangers.
Bieber will not be the only pop star at the game this Saturday. Texas native and American Idol winner, Kelly Clarkson, will perform the National Anthem before the game. Martha Plimpton, star of FOX's Raising Hope, will be singing God Bless America during the 7th inning stretch.
FOX will also be announcing the winner of their World Series of Costumes, a competition in which viewers sent in photographs for consideration.
Justin Bieber to Embarrass Major League Baseball
In 2007 the New York Yankees' Alex Rodriguez announced he was opting out of his contract during Game 4 of the World Series, and a lot of people got mad that A-Rod was taking attention away from baseball. Well, that particular contentious incident will seem like a mere trifle compared to what's going down Saturday: Before Game 3 between the Giants and Rangers, during Fox's preshow, Justin Bieber will be premiering his music video for "Never Say Never." (The video was shot at Angels Stadium, and in it Bieber "sports gear from both teams.") But here's the problem: Once that level of advanced Bieber entertainment is introduced to impressionable baseball viewers, will anyone even bother sticking around to watch the inevitable let-down of a game? Expect all-time World Series ratings lows, MLB.

Song of the Day: Oh Vanthathu Penna - Aval Varuvaala (1998)
Ahhhh - this song. I was addicted to this song when it came out. It's so soft and dreamy and romantic! And I was also battling a major crush on the puffy-haired, super-moustached Ajith Kumar at the time. This is the Ajith that I loved ... the lover, not the fighter! In more recent years he's become an action hero ... probably because he packed on pounds when he married Shalini and couldn't play the young lover boy anymore. But I found him totally adorable back in the day. Of course, he always played the "nice guy" (except for maybe the evil brother in Vaali and the rough-exteriored role in Amarkkalam), so it was easy to fall for him.
And then of course there's my girl Simran! She's rocking the 90s outfits in this and looking super-glam. She's one of the few South Indian actresses (ok I know, she's not really South Indian, but she was a Tamil movie star!) that could really, truly ACT. I mean REALLY ACT. Check her out in Kannathil Muthamittal if you don't believe me. She's phenomenal! But back in the day, she was the glam queen of Tamil Cinema. And correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't she the one that started the trend of (relatively) slim actresses in Tamil movies?
Anyway, this song from the movie Aval Varuvala (based somewhat on Sleeping with the Enemy, remade in Hindi with Esha Deol as Koi Mere Dil Se Pooche) was one of my absolute favorites in the late 90s. Of course the picturization is not at all what I had in mind. I was thinking paavadai-thaavanis and sarees, but hey, it's Simran, and she looks great in whatever.
Music was done in a typical tamil style by S.A. Rajkumar, and the song was sung by my absolute favorite singer Hariharan ...
Enjoy!

Justin Bieber's Unofficial Hip-Hop Coach, Tory Lanez, Speaks
Recently, Justin Bieber introduced Shawty Mane, his rap alias, to the world, and MTV News has found his hip-hop coach.
Following Bieber's freestyle over Vado and Cam'ron's "Speaking in Tungs," many on the web accused the singer of sampling lines from another Canadian, a rapper named Tory Lanez.
"I heard [the song] on Worldstar, and I have such a fanbase in Canada that people were hitting me and asking 'Did you know that Justin Bieber took your line?' " Lanez recalled. "I kinda laughed and smirked at it. It's funny to hear someone else using my lyrics, but I didn't think it was crooked or anything."
Lanez rhymes over Lloyd Banks' "Beamer, Benz or Bentley," which was uploaded to YouTube in March 2010, and spits "Getting hella dome, put Lady Gaga on my telephone/ Hella gone and your girl beat no metronome/ My new b----, she a yellowbone/ I buy her yellow stones because I like it when she got that yellow on."
On the "Speaking in Tungs" remix, which hit the Web earlier this month, Bieber rhymes: "Call up Lady Gaga ... on my ... on my telephone/ Hella dome ... yeah ... my girl beats, no metronome/ My new chick, she a yellowbone/ I buy her yellow stones, 'cause I like it when she got that yellow on."
Lanez says he shot the video for his "Beamer, Benz or Bentley" freestyle the same day he wrote the song: "I was like, 'I have to shoot the video right now' after I recorded it, and we shot it on the same day, March 16."
Born Daystar Peterson, the 18-year-old was the son of a traveling preacher who shuttled his family to Florida, Georgia and Montreal, Canada. The rapper says he met Bieber, who he calls "a big fan of mine," in Canada when he performed for him and garnered a favorable response from the teen pop star. Now the MC, who began rapping after writing a diss rant against his cousin for beating him in a video game, calls Los Angeles home and is enjoying the attention from Bieber's borrowing.
"There's a lot of things going on in Los Angeles," Lanez said. "I don't want to say too much, but there are a lot of things in the works."
So will Bieber and Lanez ever work together officially?
"Hopefully in the future," Lanez said. "He's probably a fan of me as much as I'm a fan of his music. He's still my friend. And anyone that wants to bash on him for the song should stop. For me, personally, I'm happy."
Lanez has released two mixtapes, including 2009's "T.L. to T.O." and this month's "One Verse One Hearse," and he has a new project called "Playing for Keeps" on the way.

He admits he's hankering for a new look and has already toyed with different styles - but he's now decided to simply shave his head by the time he records his next album.
Bieber says, "I've cut this style different ways, but I was thinking about shaving it off or changing it... But I know now isn't the right time. Maybe by my next album."

Does Justin Bieber Wear Make up?
It didn't take long after the magazine went to stores before fans start asking questions on Twitter and Facebook. But the magazine claims it didn't make any alterations to the photo at all.
Here's what they had to say about the controversy: "We could not help noticing your comments and tweets from the picture of Justin on the cover of Star Todateen. We would like to say that there was no change made in the area of the singer's eyes. We had a technical problem that darkens certain areas of the photo. We also want to say that all of us find Justin very naturally beautiful. We'd never think it's necessary to alter pictures of him. Natural beauty says it all, right?" (via Huffington Post)
Bullsh*t.
That photo has obviously had some major touchups. Maybe they didn't mean to make it appear like he wears makeup, but it barely looks like a photograph at all.Oh yeah, and Justin has a small mole to the right of his mouth.

Never Say Never: A Full Justin Bieber Retrospective?
Whatever your opinion of Justin Bieber, one thing's for sure: Even when he was 3, the guy could lay down a solid drum break.
The first full trailer for the Bieb's 3-D movie Never Say Never is here, and while it's full of the requisite skinny jeans, stylish hoodies and blown-out hair, it also features several revealing moments of Bieber before he became a music phenomenon...
From the looks of the trailer, the movie seems to be shaping up as a full Bieber retrospective, not just a concert video with some skits thrown in, Ã la the Jonas Brothers and their attempt.
In Never Say Never we get actual home video of young Justin (well, younger than the world-weary 16 he is now) showing off multi-instrumental music skills, behind-the-scenes glimpses into the stresses of touring and interviews with some of his mentors, aka Usher.
Add to that the prowess of director Jon Chu (Step Up 3D) and Bieber's story is not only in good hands, it looks like it'll deliver on what it promises: A compelling look into the life of this 21st century superstar. Never Say Never hits theaters Feb. 11.

More Project::Unisex Fragrance
Justin Bieber is expanding his empire of branded merchandise by launching a fragrance line.
The 16-year-old YouTube sensation, who already has a nail polish line and signature doll in the works, has teamed up with Etoile Nation Beauty to produce a unisex fragrance called "My World."
According to Women's Wear Daily, the scent, named after the singer's current tour, will be infused in wristbands and dog tags instead of the traditional glass bottle.
The $10 price tag for the frangrance-filled accessories should register well with Bieber's young fans. Etoile president Michael Ferrera said the collection is intended for girls and guys "to stack, mix and match, trade and take the scent on the go."
"Fragrance will be as simple as switching from one dog tag to another," he added.
"My World" will be available in Wal-Mart stores on Black Friday (Nov. 26).
Beverly Hills Med Center
Getting another day in his always-busy schedule underway, Justin Bieber was spotted stopping by a medical office in Beverly Hills, CA on Tuesday (October 26).

Inside The Kingdom
Inside The Kingdom: My Life in Saudi Arabia is the true story of a woman born in the western world to mixed parenthood and married to a Saudi Arabian hailing from none other than the much known Bin Laden family – this is a tale of the innocence of childhood, the defining moments of youth and love, the saga that is marriage, the pain that motherhood brings, the bitterness of dreams that go sour when faced with the recklessness of reality.
However, this is not simply one of the many hapless stories of broken marriages and international divorces that are tough on women – this is a narrative convoluted by the clash of religions, beliefs, and faiths – this is the life of Carmen Bin Ladin, sister-in-law of the world’s most dreaded terrorist.
Carmen is a Swiss national now residing in Geneva post her divorce with Yeslam Bin Ladin. Inside The Kingdom chronicles snapshots from Carmen’s life, in her words. She talks about her growing up years in Europe – her strained relationship with her Swiss father and her exotic vacations to her mom’s Persian home in Iran. She lovingly recalls how she fell in love with Yeslam - his commanding presence, his alluring roots, his belief in equality of partners in a relationship, his intelligence. Her fond memories of their time together in California, US and the big fat wedding in Saudi Arabia convince the readers of her assurance of a life of fulfilling love and empowering freedom.
Life is a bubble balanced on swords – and unfortunately, Carmen’s bubble broke. The oil boom in the Middle East in the mid 1970s compelled Yeslam to move back to Saudi Arabia in order to take advantage of all the money that was waiting to be made. And thus, started the long and arduous journey of Carmen – the black cloak or burqa, the thick veil, the walls within homes, the eyes that never meet, the suffocating shadows, the deafening silences, the blatant disregard for individualism, and finally the fervent and fanatic reverence of Islam that threatened to annihilate Carmen and her beautiful daughters.
The final straw to her 11-year marriage was the disintegration of her only pillar of strength – her husband, Yeslam. As his personal traits and attitude collided with the radical Islamism and complicated family politics, his weakness to stand by his wife and daughters against the established system came to the fore.
The book published in 2004 is Carmen’s attempt to distance herself form the “Bin Laden” name that had become a curse for her and her daughters in light of the 9/11 attacks in the US. She was compelled to come out in the open to state her severed ties with the family of 22 wives, 29 daughters and 25 sons – of which Osama Bin Laden was one.
Sadly, her struggle is not over. Though legally divorced in 2006 after a bitter long battle, Carmen still worries about her daughters’ well-being given Yeslam’s constant threats of abduction. Unfortunately, Yeslam holds a Swiss passport in order to keep in touch with his children.
This book is a must read for all of us who are so smug in the cobwebs of our everyday living, so entangled in our small worlds that we forget to thank god for our blessed lives, forget to cherish what we have, and forget to pray for others...
(The lives of women in Saudi Arabia remain deplorable even in today’s times – While modern amenities are making their way to the region, the people continue to steep deeper into the harshest form of Islam – that derived from the Bedouin practices. The power nexus that oil, money, dependence of the western world on Saudia Arabia, and the failure of milder forms of Islam as, for example, preached by the Shah of Iran is blood curdling. Jean Sasson has written a trilogy on the life of a Saudi princess – This is also a true account. You can read about it in my post here.)

Oh, ‘Baby’! Justin Bieber to Unleash His Signature Scent
After morphing into an action figure and adding his sparkle to nail polish, Justin Bieber is giving fans one more way to catch Bieber Fever — this time putting his own spin on scent with a debut signature fragrance. The mop-topped singer has just announced that he’ll launch My World, a unisex scent that will be produced not in bottles but instead infused into wristbands and dog tags, WWD reports. “They actually brought me a bunch of stuff to smell today,” Justin told the publication on Friday. “One of them smelled too young, too fruity. One was really good.” While the bergamot, lychee, pomegranate, cedar and musk scent is all his own, he wasn’t shy about giving props to the love-at-first-sniff scents of another pop sensation. “I actually like the Britney Spears perfume on girls. It smells good,” he said. My World will come in four designs–Icon, Energy, Tour and Web–which fans can sniff for themselves when the they launch exclusively at Walmart on Black Friday (the day after Thanksgiving) for $10 a pop. What do you think of Justin creating a fragrance? Will you try My World?
